Date: January 21- February 1, 2018
Location: Shwe Settaw, Magwe Region, Central Myanmar
While the official duration of this pagoda festival is 11 days, the festival site remains open until April each year. Thousands of Buddhists flock to the riverside pagodas – one on a hill and one at the base of the hill next to the river – where footprints of the Buddha were said to be found and now enshrined. Truckloads of families and friends drive to this dusty location in Myanmar’s dryzone and stay in temporary bamboo cabins built along the river bank. After praying and paying respect at the pagodas, pilgrims relax and cool down by playing and splashing in the clear river water of Mann Creek.
