The Thiho Shin Pagoda festival is celebrated in the town of Pakokku, in Magwe Division on the banks of the Irrawaddy River. It is important for all the people of the villages and towns of this dry region. All special produce grown in this area is bought and sold by festival goers. Dried bean stew, woven baskets, tobacco and thanakha are popular items sold at this huge fair. The thanakha sold in this region is said to be the best quality in Myanmar. All the events are held around the Thiho Shin Pagoda in the town which is a beautiful temple with three standing golden Buddha statues which pilgrims pray to.
