Hotel Magic Mandalay

The brand-new Hotel Magic Mandalay, located on the far side of Mandalar Thiri Stadium from Ocean Super Center — held a soft opening last month, offering 83 rooms, a restaurant and a rooftop swimming pool and bar.General Manager Thant Zin Htut said he was proud that Mandalay’s newest hotel offering was entirely home-grown from design through construction and decoration, using Myanmar materials and Myanmar people.  He aims to put the emphasis on service.“The magical experience myself and my team members believe we can give is through our service. We do our best to create the best experience of our hotel,” Thant Zin Htun said. With a 26 year career in Myanmar’s hotel industry, Thant Zin Htun started his career in at the Mya Yeik Nyo Royal Hotel in Yangon and since has managed high-end hotels all over the country, with Hotel Magic Mandalay his latest venture.

While the hotel’s official grand opening takes place later in 2017, Thant Zin Htun says guests can enjoy ultra-modern design including mirrors and strip lights theme throughout the hotel.Hotel Magic Mandalay features a function hall, a meeting room and restaurant called Saffron. Family suit rooms as large as 81 square meters, that include a private balcony, basic cooking facilities, living and dining areas as well as an attached bedroom. The 51 superior rooms have ensuite bathrooms with both bathtubs and showers.

With fluffy towels and a powerful central air conditioning system, the owners went the extra mile toThe main Saffron restaurant is staffed by a team of waiters who showed they were zealous in their efforts to please. The breakfast buffet includes all Asian and European cooked and uncooked dishes with chef on hand. Breakfast also includes a selection of of fresh pastries and constantly refilled coffee. As for my lunch, while the Spanish style rice may have lacked serious similarities to its European role model — it was very flavourful and served with a very large, perfectly seasoned giant prawn. The Saffron Restaurant remains open all day serving a menu of dishes from the world over for lunch and dinner. The best space in Hotel Magic Mandalay is the rooftop. It has sweeping views across Mandalay and a laid back vibe with loungers and café furniture surrounding a modest swimming pool. There is a small bar called the Sky Magic Bar, which offers the same menu as the restaurant downstairs. On cooler evenings, the rooftop is bound to be a good place to sit with a drink and friends and watch the sun set over Mandalay Hill and the rest of the city.A pleasant surprise is the extremely well-equipped gym. The machines are top of the range and the hotel aims to encourage people from local community to invest in membership as well as house guests to use the top class facilities. The sweeping view of the city from the windows of the gym will surely be motivation to stick around and jog an extra few kilometres on the treadmill. The hotel is aiming for a client base of mostly foreign tourists but Manager Thant Zin Htun says he expects plenty of local bookings from people visiting Mandalay for events at the nearby Mandalar Thiri Stadium and Mandalay Convention Centre which opened up last year.
