Well-established Yangon hotel gets a facelift and looks set to become a top choice for business travellers and long-term stays. Earlier this year, MiCasa Hotel, a well-established hotel on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road was acquired by AccorHotels, an international hotel chain currently holding a portfolio of ten hotels in Myanmar and 4,300 internationally. AccorHotels have assigned the property to Mercure, the company’s midscale collection of hotels. Now, with an upgrade to the design and decoration as well as modernization and expansion of facilities, for business travellers especially, Mercure Yangon Kaba Aye looks set to become a top choice for business travellers and long-term stays in the Myanmar’s commercial capital.

This 183-room hotel is spread over seven stories in a location away from downtown Yangon but close to business hubs like Myanmar Plaza as well as Yangon International Airport. The reception is approached by a sleek walkway which gives glimpses of the large swimming pool through the landscaping. Black stone tiles peppered with gold-coloured mosaic add an elegant touch while sweeping open windows and bamboo plants maintain a tropical ambience. Ready to Work For business people travelling to Yangon for work, there is the business centre ‘Ready to Work’ which has convenient offices, meeting rooms and work spaces which can be booked on an hourly, daily or monthly basis.

The facility includes a free flow of coffee and tea, secretarial service and a printing station with scanning, laminating, binding and facilities. The professional and modern vibe gives the impression that one could get a lot of quality work done without distractions or inconveniences. With the Mercure rebrand, the hotel has also upgraded the event spaces hoping to catch organizers and hosts of weddings, workshops, seminars, cocktail parties and conferences. Located separate to the Ready to Work centre, there are two meeting rooms of 107m2 and 75m2 respectively which can accommodate up to 50 attendees while the Federation Ballroom can host up to 210 attendees. Accommodation The accommodation options remain popular with long-term guests and families thanks to the variety of self-contained suites with one-, two- or three-bedroom options as well as regular deluxe rooms numbering 183 in total. The suites have kitchenettes with cooker, oven and fridge and either have access to laundry facilities inside the room or nearby. The interiors have been upgraded and given a fresh look with ambient lighting and all have the bonus of a small balcony in every room. For long term stays there is a useful housekeeping service. MiCasa Restaurant & Bar The hotel’s restaurant and bar have kept the previous name ‘MiCasa Restaurant & Bar’ as a nod to the past but the refurbishment has brought a new, sleek and modern design concept to the table. The open-floor layout gives a bustling atmosphere and family groups, friends and colleagues would all feel comfortable here. There unique ceiling design and comfortable couch options make it modern and fresh. There are live cooking stations and an exciting schedule of dinner packages including buffets and region-specific cuisine nights and food features that change on a regular basis. The bar section overlooks the swimming pool and has a large TV for customers to follow sporting events. Recreation The large swimming pool has long been popular with guests and non-guests alike for those looking for a refreshing activity on hot Yangon days. It is a large pool suitable for fitness purposes or relaxing and there is a shallow kid’s pool incorporated. Though in the middle of the hotel grounds, the feeling of tranquility is set off by the green landscaping surrounding guests while in the area. From the loungers or garden seating, one can order refreshments from the connected bar and restaurant. Aerobic sessions and swimming lessons are on offer and the nearby gym has a personal trainer on hand to give you tips and guidance. Though the gym is small, all the essential equipment is available to use. All in all, for the excellent facilities – in particular the Ready to Work business centre – and refreshed and modern theme, Mercure Yangon Kaba Aye is one of the most convenient places in the city for business travellers and long-term guests.
