Yangon regional government is planning to open a public waterfront area in downtown Yangon next year aiming to promote more tourism destinations in the city, according to the local news website The Irrawaddy.
The regional government’s tourism promoting plan includes the idea of opening waterfront area as Yangon is situated on the bank of Hlaing River.
As a pilot project, the walled waterfront areas along Strand Road will be opened for public use first by demolishing the wall along the road.
The old warehouses from the area will be renovated and opened as art spaces in purpose of providing venues for public recreation.
