China stands second at last year’s tourist list

Chinese tourists were the second highest number of visitors to Myanmar in 2016 followed after Thailand, which stood at the top of the foreign visitors list last year.

Local based Daily Eleven newspaper reported that about 500,000 Chinese tourists visited Myanmar last year mainly through the border towns like Muse, Laukai, Chin Shwe Haw, Lwejae, Kanpiketi and Mongla.

Myanmar and China held the first tourism forum in Naypyitaw last week to promote tourism between the two countries.

At the forum, minister for hotels and tourism U Ohn Maung said Myanmar is planning to cooperate with  Yunan Province Tourism Development Committee to establish the programs to promote the tourism sectors.

Additionally, the two countries aim to cooperate in corss-border tourism in border towns holding traditional festivals and making more investments in tourism sector.

In 2015, over 800,000 Chinese visitors came to Myanmar.
