First CBT in Mon State being implemented

The first community-based-tourism project for Mon State is being implemented at a village near the well-known Buddhist pilgrimage site in the state, according to the local newspaper Daily Eleven.
An official from the hotels and tourism ministry of the state said a local company proposed to implement a CBT project at Saung Tine Gyi village, which is about four miles away from the foot of the mountain where Myanmar’s famous Kyaiktiyo Pagoda (Golden Rock) is existed.
Though there are other famous sites attracted to the foreign visitors in the state, the company initiated to start the program at the village and it becomes the first CBT destination of the state.
After Bagan, Kyaiktiyo pagoda is the second most popular destination in Myanmar and total of 106,521 tourists visited the region in 2015.
The peak of the pilgrimage season is from November to March.
