Survey on Ayeyarwady Dolphins shows the number of the dolphins has increased from 65 in last year to 75 this year, according to the local newspaper The Myanmar Times.

Quoting an official from the dolphin conservation process, the report said the number would be higher than 70 if some dolphins would not die last year due to the illegal fishing.

The survey was conducted for 10 days in Kachin state, Sagaing region and Mandalay region by the government officials and conservationists, and the dolphins were found between Minkun village and Bamaw township.

The government is trying to conserve the rare and endangered species as well as attempting to attract more foreigners by establishing dolphin-based tours in five villages in the areas.
