Hot Air Balloon Festival kicks off
Myanmar’s famous hot air balloon festival is scheduled from November 8 to 15 in Myanmar’s eastern Shan State.
The yearly festival is being celebrated in Taunggyi, capital of Shan State, by launching colourful hot air balloons in different shapes and sizes from the festival grounds.
The festival also includes hot air balloons competitions and some of them are decorated with fireworks, which explode in all directions when the balloon reaches a height of about 20 meters.
The local Shan ethnic people have been keeping the tradition alive for many decades and the authorities prepare special areas for foreign visitors to watch the launching of the balloons safely.
Every year, the festival draws great attention from both local and foreign tourists and thousands of people join the local people to celebrate the event with more than 100 traditional paper balloons.
Taunggyi is closed to Myanmar’s great tourist destination Inle Lake and the weather is cool in November.
