Myanmar expects 7.5 million visitors by 2020

Hotels and tourism ministry expects to receive 7.5 million visitors by 2020 by cooperating with the private sectors to meet the target.

Local based Daily Eleven reported that Myanmar received about 2.9 million visitors in 2016 and targets to increase the number of visitors to more than double in three years.

The ministry is also cooperating with the neighboring countries to promote border tourism through 11 border gates: five with China, five with Thailand and one with India.

Myanmar’s tourism sector contributed 4.4 trillion kyat and created 1.43 million jobs until 2015.
