Myanmar tourists to Singapore increased
The number of Myanmar tourists visited to Singapore was increased about 7.8 percent in seven months of this year according to Singapore Tourism Board (STB).
Local newspaper 7 Day reported that about 70,000 Myanmar tourists visited to Singapore from January to July this year and the number was increased about 7.8 percent compare to the same period of 2015.
“Singapore is one of the most visited destinations by Myanmar people. The number of Myanmar tourists visiting Singapore has grown at a compound annual growth rate of 3% from 2011 – 2015. Last year, a total of 105,452 tourists visited Singapore from Myanmar. The year saw an increase of 16% in business visitor arrivals,” said an official from STB.
Compare to 2014, the spending of Myanmar tourists in Singapore has increased over 60% as well especially on food and shopping categories.
Recently, STB organized its first promotion event in Yangon to attract Myanmar travelers to Singapore as well as marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic tie between Singapore and Myanmar.
Officials are expecting to see further increase in tourism when visa exemption between the two countries is started on December 1 allowing a maximum of 30-day stay.
In 2015, total of 105,000 Myanmar tourists visited the city-state.
