Tourism authorities are planning to transform Yay Myat Gyi Lake to a new resort destination aiming to boost eco-tourism in Sagaing Region.
Local newspaper Daily Eleven reported that the salt-water lake was previously supervised by fishery department and the regional government is trying to transform it to a new resort.
The environmentalists said the lake, which covers more than 8,000 acres, is a home for migrating birds, various fish species and natural resources and has potential to become a tourism destination.
It will also create opportunities for the local people for their living as they are not able to earn well from cultivation.
