A local publisher is preparing to open Myanmar’s first book plaza in downtown Yangon in early 2017 aiming to attract the local book lovers.

According to the online news website The Irrawaddy, the publisher of WE Publishing House, U San Mon Aung, is set to open “Yangon Book Plaza” at 20,000 square feet space on the fifth floor of Than Market in Lanmadaw township.

With an initial investment of around US$100,000, the plaza will include memorials for famous Myanmar authors, local bookshops, outlets of international book chains, used bookstalls, offices, spaces for book launches and coffee shops.

He plans to invite the investors for about 30 outlets in the plaza in November offering the rental fees with below market prices though the location is in downtown’s Chinatown.
