The entrance fee at Shwe Dagon Pagoda for foreign will be increased from 8,000 kyat to 10,000 kyat starting from June 1, local based The Voice reported.
Quoting an official from Myanmar Tourist Guides Association, the pagoda’s board of trustees informed to the association about the increase in entrance fee.
As most of the tours are arranged in advanced, a tour operator said the board of trustees should inform earlier enough to let their customers know the change but now it is likely for the agencies
to pay the extra 2,000 kyats on behalf of their tourists.
“The entrance fee for Bagan zone is 25,000 kyat and the tourists can stay there for five days.
Tourists mostly visit Shwe Dagon pagoda for about 45 minute and they should be permitted to visit there for two days. I think the current fee is quite fair,” a tourist guide said.
In April, more than 40,000 foreign visitors came to the pagoda.
