Aviation authorities are expecting to complete the upgrading process of three local airports in early 2017, according to the local newspaper Daily Eleven.
An official from Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) said the department has been upgrading Sittwe Airport and Thandaw Airport in Rakhine State, and Lashio Airport in Shan State.
The airport capacity of Sittaw and Thandwe airports is only 150 arrival and departure passengers and they only have space for two aircrafts.
After the upgrading process is completed, the airport can manage about 400 passengers at the same time and will have space for six planes. X-ray machines and CCTV cameras will be installed at the airports as well to enhance security system.
Thandwe and Sittwe airports are set to be opened respectively in January and February next year.
