Visitors to Beikthano site increased

The number of visitors to Beikthano ancient city was increased in the fourth quarter of 2016, according to the local newspaper 7 Day.

Beikthano is one of three Pyu city states designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and located in central Myanmar.
In the previous years, the number of foreign and local visitors to the site was at average of 1,000 per month but it reached over 12,000 in the last three months of 2016.

The archeological department at the ancient city said there were 4,237 visitors in October, 4,488 in November and 3,740 in December.

"The visits to the site have been increased year by year. There is potential growth in the number of foreign visitors as well as we upgraded information center of the site," an official from the department said.

All the data and information provided by the center is arranged in English and Myanmar as well as museum tours by the explanation of the staff.
