Shan ethic people in Yangon held their first ever traditional Thingyan event at Hmyawsinkyun, Kandawgyi Park in the city last Saturday.

Among the attendants at the event were Shan people not only in the Pinni coloured outfit but in many different coloured clothes.

Some 10 Shan groups currently living in Yangon organized the event with the guidance of Shan Literary and Culture Association (Yangon). At the event, the participants were entertained with performances by Shan traditional dancers and music troupes from Kengtung and Thibaw(Hsipaw) as well as being served Shan foods.

The event was packed with the participants and was a friendly gathering occasion for the Shan people.

“We will try to organize for this kind of event to be held within Thingyan days in the years to come,” said U Sai Htet Phone, who is in charge of organizing the event.
