Entrance fees should be charged on Kyats: tourism businesses
Entrance
fees to tourist destinations should be charged on Kyats instead of U.S. dollar
because that in turn can make Kyat value stronger, tourism businesses suggested
at the workshop on tourism by-law drafting held on January 9.
While some destinations in Myanmar
collect entrance fee on Kyats, others charged the fees on dollar.
Suggesting on entrance fee, a local tourism
business owner said “It (the entrance fee) should be charged in terms of Kyat.
Or, charging on dollar is sometimes difficult for us to calculate due to
currency fluctuation.
Since, we sell the tour in advance, we will need to have fixed
entrance fees in Myanmar Kyat which will prevent impact from dollar
fluctuation.”
U Aye Kyaw, vice president of Myanmar Tourism
Association, also seconded the idea of charging the entrance fee in Kyats at
the workshop on January 9.
Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, union parliament,
enacted Myanmar Tourism Law on September 17, 2018.
