Traditional Food Show 2018 took place at the festival of Lawkanandar Pagoda
in Bagan on 18 and 19 August with the display of local/traditional foods from
nine zones of Myanmar Restaurants Association (MNA).
nine zones were Bagan, Yangon, Mandalay, Kayah, Kyin, Dawei, Kyaikhto,
Mawlamyine and Shan State (South). At the event, the zones’ foods and traditional
textile wares practically cooked and woven by the participants won much
attention of the visitors who were happy to see the freshly cooked bites
available for them.

including Mohinkha, Mawlamyine style Yaysein (water soaked) Monhinkha and Panthay (Chinese Muslim style) Noodles, Thingyan Htamin (specially prepared fragrant rice served at the
Myanmar New Year festival), Mon traditional textile wares, Kayin’s local foods,
Kayah sausage and local foods, Kayan and Kayah’s hand-woven designs, Shan
noodles and Hin-htoke, Inle dishes of
Nha-htamin-nal (a mixture of rice, turmeric and fish) and preserved
pork in rice, yellowish hot tofu, preserved pork in rice, and Kin Paung Kyaw (a food of Japanese
sashimi style), Mandalay’s Monte, Nan-gyi-Thke and etc.
the foods were also Bagan’s Pon-yay-Gyi
(fermented bean paste) spaghetti, Pon-yay-gyi salad, Htan Nyet (local jiggery made from toddy water) and tamarind-based
foods and Myanmar let-thoke-sone (a
kind of salad with noodle, potato, tamarind, vegetable and etc.), Kyazanchet (Bean-thread
Vermicelli Soup) and various fried snacks from Yagon.
event aimed to promote the Green Season travel as well as a sort of new
promotion show to attract the travellers and to help foreign travellers know
how to make these foods and participate in cooking dishes themselves.
plan to hold such event in Bagan once a year and roughly, we also have a plan
to do so in other regions such as Inle and Mawlamyine. But, we have to wait and
see the outcome of this event and if good, we will continue to do such events
