Thailand’s New Gen Airways launches Bangkok-Myeik direct flight
Thailand’s New Gen Airways launched a direct flight between Bangkok and Myeik in Tanintharyi Region on February 23 in cooperation with Myanmar’s Htun Htaik Tin Company.“Currently, there is this flight only between Myeik and Bangkok.
This flight runs three days a week,” said U Thardu, official of the jointly-run flight.The flight fare is USD 180 for a return trip. Planes have a capacity of 150 passengers and leave every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday weekly. It
is learnt that it took six months to do field work, preparation and
paper work with the ministry concerned in order to launch the flight.
In
2004, there was a similar flight between the two cities but the service
was cancelled after a month due to difficulties. According
to sources in the tourism industry, the direct flight will be of some
help to promotion of Myanmar’s tourism as there might be in increase in
foreign traveler arrival from or via Bangkok.
